Workplace Romance

Still, Phil’s issues paled in comparison to those of my friend Taffy, who was standing at the printer one day when her company’s new CFO suggested that they have lunch or dinner sometime. Recalls Taffy, “I just started fumbling, saying things like, ‘Look, I think you’re really handsome but I’ve just gotten out of a messy relationship with someone I worked with,’ and then he just puts his finger to his mouth to get me to stop talking. Suddenly I realize he’s wearing an earpiece, has been talking to someone else on the phone the whole time, and I’ve just said no to a date that my new boss never asked me on.”

Taffy may have been mortified – “All I could do afterwards was go sit under my desk and rock back and forth” – but as far as I’m concerned, she got off easy.
