Your email company wants to protect you but much like a codependent mother, it can become overprotective and block e-mail you want to get. If you tell Mom I’m cool—by which I mean add me to your trusted list of senders, contacts or address book—we should be okay. (Techies, btw, call this  “whitelisting.”)

If you do not see an email from me in your Inbox, my email may have mistakenly been sent to your spam!

I would thus be so grateful if you could open your spam folder and if you find an email from me, open it and mark it as “Not spam” (Hi, Mom!)

And then there’s that incredibly sensitive sibling. Yes, I’m talking about Gmail.

To even get to this one, you may have to add my email address to your contacts list.

If you do not readily find an email from me…

Please check your Gmail Spam Folder. If you see the email from me, open the email and click the button on the toolbar, labeled Not spam

Next please, add me to your Contacts list like this:

  1.  Open the email from me
  2.  Click the drop down arrow next to “Reply” in the upper right side the email from header.
  3.  Click the “Add to Contacts List” from the list that appears.
  4.  If this does not appear in the dropdown list, then you probably have already added me to Contacts (take that, overly sensitive sibling!)

Now, if you are using the Gmail Mobile App on your phone, please open the app. If you are using Gmail Tabs such as “Promotions” open your Promotions tab in Gmail.

If you do not find an email from me, please check the Spam Folder and if you find an email from me, tap that three dot thingamajig menu icon (looks like this) on the top right, then select Move to and move it to Primary.

If you DO find an email from me in your Gmail Promotions tab, grab and drag the email to the Primary Inbox Tab. After that, you’ll get an alert like the one below at the top of your Gmail toolbar.

The conversation has been moved to “Primary”
Do this for future messages from Yes

That way, I’ll always be in your Primary Inbox tab! Look at how far we’ve come!

Another popular way I can be inadvertently banned from the family is through the Iphone mail app. Make sure you occasionally check the Junk folder that were mistakenly marked Junk. If my email was there, make sure you click MARK AS NOT JUNK so we’ll never be kept apart. Look at how far we’ve come!
