We hear a lot about SMART—Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Sensitive—goals. Supposedly, they can help anyone achieve anything!
Maybe they can.
But who wants to achieve just anything when you could achieve extraordinary things?
Hence the EPIC—Extraordinary, Powerful, Impactful and Courageous—goal.
EPIC goals are not specific, measurable, attainable, relevant or time sensitive. They are broad, never-ending, wildly unattainable, often irrelevant and most definitely not time sensitive.
They are things we should not be able to achieve.
And yet we do.
While many know that setting goals is important in our personal lives, few understand how much goal setting can increase both job satisfaction and happiness in the workplace.
But it's a fact: according to a 2015 study, achieving personal and organizational goals makes employees more satisfied with their jobs.
After discovering this firsthand, New York Times bestselling author and goal-setting advocate Anna David created the EPIC Goal System—a unique way for journaling about goals in a way that shows how team members can go after what they want while letting go of the results.
Studies show that writing down our goals makes us 42% more likely to meet them. With the EPIC Goal Method, attendees will not only able to identify the goals they want to meet as well as the actions they can take to achieve them but also find out how to work with the universe to make the results turn out even better than they could have imagined.
David—who has spoken about goal setting on Good Morning America and written about it in Psychology Today and Entrepreneur magazine—has seen the transformative impact the EPIC Goal Method has had on the people she coached. This motivated her to bring "Goal Setting is the Key to Workplace Happiness" to corporations and events worldwide.
Using wit, live journaling exercises and unique stories—about topics as varied as meeting a goal 27 years after setting it and learning about manifestation from a pre-fame Matt Damon—David provides audiences with specific journaling exercises and actionable steps. Even better: every participant leaves with an EPIC Goal Workbook that already has their initial goals and actions mapped out.
